When Google rejects a Business Profile verification video, it marks the review "Not successful" and tells you why. The fix is to record a new video that includes everything from the first one, plus whatever Google said was missing.

The reasons Google gives

Google's help page gives examples of why a video may not succeed. Here is what each usually means in practice:

ReasonWhat usually went wrongWhat to do next time
Business name not visible on the storefrontNo permanent sign, or the sign was out of focus, too far away or a different nameHold the camera steady on a permanent sign that shows the exact profile name
No nearby area shownThe video started at the door, so Google could not match the locationStart on the street: signs, building numbers, neighbouring businesses
Missing proof of authorisationThe business was shown, but nothing proved you manage itUnlock the door, show the till or kitchen, or for service-area businesses show a permit, invoice or bill in the business name

Other common causes

  • The video was edited or had breaks. Google requires one unedited, complete recording.
  • It was pre-recorded. Videos must be captured live in the verification flow.
  • It was shorter than 30 seconds.
  • The profile does not match reality. A name with extra keywords, or an address that does not match the sign, can cause a failure even if the video is good.
  • The business type is wrong. Google says a business without permanent signage should be a service-area business, which proves itself with tools, equipment and branded items instead.

How to record a video that passes

  1. Fix the profile first. Name, address or service area and category must match the real world.
  2. Plan one route. Street, then signage or equipment, then proof you manage the business.
  3. Include everything from the first video plus the missing items. Google specifically asks for this.
  4. Film in good light, moving slowly and pausing on names and numbers.
  5. Leave out bank, tax or ID numbers, private information and other people's faces.

For example shot lists by business type, see What to Film for Video Verification.

If the same reason keeps coming back, the issue is usually the profile setup, not the filming. That is the point where a second pair of eyes helps most.

Frequently asked questions

Can I try video verification again after a rejection?

Yes. Google lets you record a new video after an unsuccessful review. Include everything from the first video plus what was missing.

Will Google tell me why my video failed?

Yes. When a video is not successful, Google shares the reasons on your profile.

Could my profile be suspended because verification failed?

An unsuccessful verification means the profile is not verified yet. Keep the profile accurate and try again; avoid creating a second profile for the same business.
